A safe place for healing and transformation
Life can feel overwhelming at times. You might be struggling with anxiety, processing grief, or dealing with past trauma. It's natural to feel stuck, confused, or unsure about how to move forward. Taking the first step to seek support shows incredible courage and self-awareness. As a person-centred counsellor based in South Manchester and Didsbury, I offer a warm, compassionate space where you can explore your feelings and work towards healing and growth.
I am a BACP registered counsellor with over 500 hours of supervised clinical work, offering both in-person counselling in South Manchester and Didsbury, as well as online or telephone sessions for clients across the UK. I believe, as a therapist, it's important to understand your socioeconomic, ethnic, cultural, religious, and spiritual beliefs to be able to facilitate healing and transformation. My person-centred approach means we work together at your pace, whether you're looking for short-term support or longer-term therapy. I specialise in trauma and grief counselling, with particular expertise in complex PTSD. I work with people of all ages, genders and ethnic backgrounds.
Being born and raised in India and settling in the UK as an adult, I have experienced significant change, adaptation, and integration that deeply informs my practice. I work with adult individuals (18+) and offer sessions in English, Urdu, Bengali, and Hindi. Through our collaborative therapeutic relationship, we can address various challenges including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, cultural challenges, and low self-esteem. All sessions are confidential and tailored to your unique needs and goals.

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to help us both decide if we might work well together. During this call, you can share what brings you to counselling, ask any questions you have about the process, and get a sense of how I work. This informal conversation helps ensure you feel comfortable moving forward and allows me to understand if I'm the right counsellor to support you on your journey. There's no obligation to proceed after our initial chat.
“Therapy should not be theory driven but relationship driven”
– Irvin Yalom
“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination."
– Carl Roger
As a person-centred counsellor, I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) techniques where helpful, which can offer valuable insights into how different parts of ourselves respond to life's challenges. This trauma-informed approach helps create lasting positive change while ensuring you feel safe and supported throughout our work together.
What My Clients Say
“My session with Mousumi have been incredibly valuable for my personal growth. Over the 18 months I have known her, she has helped me view situations, challenges, and people from fresh perspectives. I was struggling with anxiety and coping with the loss of a family member, but Mousumi guided me through my grief, helping me come to terms with the loss and rebuild my confidence. This newfound understanding has brought greater clarity to my interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships”.
“I initially worked with Mousumi for a handful of counselling sessions as part of an abortion aftercare service. By the end of our sessions, I felt such a deep connection to her that I decided to continue the sessions privately. I have been in therapy for years, but I have never felt as comfortable with any other therapist as I do with Mousumi. For the first time, I feel truly heard."
From our very first session, she put me at ease and listened without judgment, which allowed me to open up completely. Last December was an incredibly difficult time for me as I underwent an abortion, lost my dog, and dealt with an ongoing police case involving my abusive ex-partner.
I absolutely could not have made it through without Mousumi by my side. She was so patient during my recovery and helped me understand that I was grieving all of these losses. She taught me to be kind to myself and not to expect to bounce back to my normal self right away. I still remember the day I started to feel more like myself. Although it was an incredibly painful time, I experienced significant growth and realisations as a result - something I credit to her. Mousumi helped me see that I should also thank myself, as I met her halfway by taking small, positive steps every day. Because of this, I always leave our sessions with more clarity and confidence in myself.
Nowadays, she helps me manage my anxiety, loneliness, and relationships. I look forward to our sessions, as they are sometimes the only opportunity I have for a deep, meaningful conversation in a week - which I am so grateful for.
As a person of colour, I know how difficult it can be to find a therapist who understands your struggles in the context of your culture and background. I would highly recommend Mousumi to anyone, especially women of colour who have yet to find their ideal therapist.
I feel very fortunate to have come across Mousumi and hope to continue working with her for many years to come. Thank you, Mousumi, for all the support you have given me - I appreciate it so much”.
